500 PPI HOLOGRAM PROJECTION PHONES TO ARRIVE NEXT YEAR

The advent of lifelike holograms is upon us.  We have seen celebrities who are no longer around; appear on stageand ‘converse’ with real people thanks to new standards in holographic technology.  Imagine this type of breakthrough tech being wielded in the palm of your hand?  Well folks, we don’t have to wait too long as the technology, which makes an image ‘float’ as a 3D image in the air, is finally here.

The company that has made this breakthrough, Ostendo, has produced a hologram with a 5,000ppi projector.  It is this type of projector that should interest us, as they plan to fit it into smartphones in the second half of 2015.

The hologram is created using six projectors, which layer light to create an image floating in the air, much like a real and solid object.  The discovery came from fusing an image processor with a thin layer of micro LEDs to create the Quantum Photonic Imager.
The result is quite remarkable; a projector that is approximately the size of a TicTac candy. The projector is powered by the chip that controls the colour, brightness and angle of each individual beam of light.
When the holographic projector prototype, was demoed to The Wall Street Journal, it displayed a floating 3D dice.  This dice looked solid from all angles that it was viewed at.
Unlike the iPhone’s Retina Display, which operates at 300ppi, this object is displayed with ‘almost real’ 5,000ppi projectors.
Ostendo has said they are working with handset manufacturers now for a 2D projector into a mobile device by the summer of 2015. The full 3D projector however, should arrive later in 2015.
The firm is aiming to make the pixels even smaller to enable higher resolutions. It will also be scaling up the size, to make 3D holographic projections, which can appear from our TVs!  As with all speculations regarding prototypes; until we see a working model, we’ll just have to keep on waiting.
As always, if you would like to leave a sensible comment, then please do so in the comments section below.

How to Accept That Your Computer Is Slow

Edited by Simon P, Lucky7, Teresa, Peter and 7 others
Do you have DSL or dial-up internet but just don't have the patience or time to let your computer run so slow? Sometimes you just have to face the facts and accept that your computer just isn't the fastest in the world.

1.  Be patient. Don't click anything too fast or try to refresh the page. This will just confuse the computer and it will run even slower. Don't overreact; just leave the computer alone, don't click anything, the best thing to do is just to let it load.

2.  Clear your computer of all unnecessary documents. The more documents you get rid of, the more empty space you will have on the computer. Having more space on your computer will allow everything to run faster. Clear your recycle bin every once in a while to delete unnecessary files.

3.  Buy new hardware for your computer. If one part of your computer is not working well or you have an older computer, consider upgrading the part to a more up-to-date replacement.
  • Keeping your computer updated is a good way to help your computer run faster and you can do so much more!

4.  Forget videos. If you have dial-up internet, it can take up to half an hour to load one two-minute video. Unless you can leave your computer alone for hours to let it load, just forget about it. You can live without online videos.

 TIPS
  • Get an expert to have a good, in-depth looking into the causes of it running slow. Most PC repair stores will be able to fix most problems at very reasonable rates.
  • Look around online to see on ways to improving the speed.
  • If you're that frustrated about your computer's speed, consider switching to Ubuntu or Fedora. These operating systems would probably work faster, and are free. If your computer is VERY old, consider a distro (distribution) made specifically for older computers, such as Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux, or Lubuntu.

How to Actiate GPRS

Edited by celina, Maluniu, Mrs . Barbie Doll, Jordan and 2 others
GPRS (Global Packet Radio Service) is a packet-based method of data transfer, used for wireless services on cellular phones and mobile Internet devices. This means that data files are broken into chunks, or packets, to be routed through different Internet channels, then are put together again to form the complete data file once they reach their destination location. With GPRS, data transfers at a much faster rate than with mobile communication services, and those using GPRS have uninterrupted Internet connections on all of their mobile devices. GPRS services enable MP3 downloads, videos, games, wallpapers, animations and more. Each mobile service provider has different guidelines for activating GPRS, so follow the method appropriate to your provider. Mobile phone SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) cards sometimes come with the GPRS capabilities already activated, but if your SIM is not equipped with GPRS, you will have to opt-in to GPRS services. Follow the steps below for how to activate GPRS.

Edit Steps

  1. Determine that you have a phone with a SIM card that is equipped for Global Packet Radio Service. You cannot activate GPRS on a phone that is not programmed for GPRS services. If you do not have the correct type of phone and/or SIM card, you will have to get a new one.
  2. Enroll in a mobile service provider plan that is GPRS compatible. GPRS is available in over 200 countries. Shop around for a mobile phone service that provides GPRS and GPRS-equipped phones.
  3. Contact your service provider and ask for instructions. The customer care department should be able to guide you through the steps necessary to activate GPRS services on your phone. The activation process generally requires 1 of the following 3 steps:
    • Calling your provider's automated GPRS activation service using the appropriate number code.
    • Sending an SMS (Short Message Service) or text message to activate GPRS. The message text will be a number or codeword that your service provider can give you.
    • Accessing GPRS services settings through a menu on your mobile phone. Once your service provider gives you instructions to guide you to the appropriate menu, you can control the GPRS services settings on your phone, and sometimes access GPRS applications, depending on your service provider and the mobile telephone model you are using.
